SHREWSBURY, Mass. – It was a festive Thanksgiving morning on Shrewsbury's Town Common as the first-ever Turkey Trot for the Memory drew over 400 runners to help raise money for the Alzheimer's association in honor of one local father lost to the disease.

"I know there are a lot of people here today who have family members who are suffering through the disease or were lost of the disease," said Jane Lizotte, who organized the Turkey Trot along with her family in memory of their father Francis P. O'Connor. "Even though those people are not here, they are with us today in our hearts."

Lizotte said she was thankful for the runners in the 5-miler and 2-mile fun walkers came out on Thanksgiving morning to support the cause.

John Murray, former Shrewsbury High School running star home from Georgetown University, was the first to finish the race in just over 27 minutes. Emily Hogan was the first female to finish, taking 33 minutes to run the five miles.

Winners in their respective divisions took home pies with their medals, in honor of the holiday.
