JULIEWOOD, Colorado - Julianne "Julie" Scanlon and her beloved husband Bruce literally shared her final breath, with a kiss, holding hands as she died on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.
"She was Minnie, and I was Mickey," says Bruce, who married Julie onstage, in an unforgettable event, at Ralph's Diner in Worcester on April 2, 1989.
More than anything in the world, Julie deeply loved spending time with her family, her children, and her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her husband, and they spent their spare time traveling - including many visits to Walt Disney World, their destination of choice, "Where dreams come true" - hiking, camping, and working in her garden. And she loved to cook.
With her beautiful smile, her unique, infectious laugh and her upbeat presence, she was a light to everyone she met. She laughed loud - and often - and loved life. She adored people - and everyone who met her adored her right back.
Julie was born Oct. 24, 1957 in Worcester to Janice Brunelle Dillon and the late James Cronin. She graduated from Burncoat High School in Worcester in 1975 and attended Front Range Community College in Longmont, Colo. in the medical assistant program.
She built a successful career in restaurant management, sharing her presence and talent as a singing waitress at Tommy Gunn's - where she first met Bruce - and later at Legal Seafood in Worcester, Pearl's and the Hotel Boulderado in Boulder, Colo., and the Hilltop Café in Golden, Colo.
She is survived by many relatives to whom she brought great happiness, including her husband, of Firestone, Colo.; her mother, of Worcester; paternal grandmother Julia Cronin of Worcester; sons Richard Michaud of Broomfield, Colo., Keith Michaud of Seattle and Jonathan Scanlon of Denver, Shane Scanlon of Davenport, Florida; daughters Shannen Delude of Shrewsbury, and Jaclyn Scanlon of Firestone, Colo.; her grandsons Garrick and Liam Floyd of Firestone, and Jarred and Jeremy Delude of Shrewsbury; and her brothers, Steven Cronin of Worcester, Brian Cronin of Malden, Mass., James Cronin of Chester, N.H. and Michael Dillon of Worcester.
She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Robert Cronin; her maternal grandparents, George and Luna Brunelle; and paternal grandfather, James Cronin.
Private family services will be held and her remains will be scattered at Juliewood, her Colorado home. Some of her ashes also will be scattered on the island of her childhood home in Worcester.
Contributions in Julie's memory may be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
