SHREWSBURY, Mass. – A Worcester man arrested in Shrewsbury on firearms charges after a pursuit by police was held on $75,000 cash bail after his arraignment in Westborough District Court on Tuesday.
Akeem L. Rose, 27 of Worcester, was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 31 after leading police on a car chase, crashing his car and fleeing through the woods.
At around 9:43 p.m., Officer John Pitro of the Shrewsbury Police Department stopped a 1999 Ford Taurus on Rte. 20 near CJ Trucking. As he approached the car, the suspect fled. Pitro returned to his cruiser and followed the car on Rte. 20 eastbound until the car crashed near the intersection of Rte. 20 and South Street. According to police, two occupants of the car then fled on foot.
Pitro and Detective Timothy Finacom chased the suspects and at one point saw one suspect toss a handgun.
The two officers apprehended Rose in the woods, but were unable to locate the other suspect, despite the assistance of the Shrewsbury K-9 unit.
According to court records, a black semi automatic hand gun was found near Rose in the woods and he was found with two fully loaded magazines holstered in a shoulder holster that were consistent with the gun in the woods.
Police also found a loaded silver 40-caliber hand gun on the floor of the car.
One of the guns was reported stolen in Baltimore, Maryland in 2006 and another was registered to a Luis Dejesus.
Rose was charged with two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon, two counts of possession of a firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property over $250 and resisting arrest.
Rose is due back in Westborough District Court on Feb. 1.
