SHREWSBURY, Mass. - An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the Shrewsbury Senior Center on Thursday with an incentive: a free Dunkin' Donuts gift card for donors and a free tax return.

This drive is open to the public and residents from all surrounding towns are invited to participate. Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors are also welcome. The Red Cross is hoping to collect at least 55 life-savings pints of blood at this drive.

The blood drive runs 2-8 p.m. at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, 98 Maple Ave. All donors will receive a free Dunkin Donuts gift card and a free tax return from Liberty Tax.

The Red Cross has to collect 3,000 pints of blood everyday to meet the basic needs of patients throughout the New England Region.  In the United States, blood is needed for transfusions every two seconds.  This blood can only come from caring volunteer donors.  All blood types are needed, blood type O is the universal donor and always in GREAT need.

If you are in good health, weigh 110 pounds or more, and have not given blood in the past 56 days you may try to donate.  The American Red Cross now requires a positive ID before donating.  You must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parental consent form).

Please call 1-800-RedCross (1-800-733-2767) or log onto www.redcrossblood.org  to schedule an appointment to donate.
