Shrewsbury Man Held on $25,000 Bail After Stabbing

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – A Shrewsbury man was held on $25,000 cash bail for the charges of assault and attempted murder after allegedly attacking another man with a knife inside the victim's Shrewsbury home.

Luke A. Lucier, 19 of 12 Sadler Ave, was arrested on Jan. 25 in Shrewsbury. According to the police report written by Sgt. Michael Cappucci of the Shrewsbury Police Department, Lucier went to the victim's home and assaulted him with a butterfly knife.

"Once at the residence, Lucier confronted and then stabbed [the victim] in the chest causing serious injury," Cappucci ...

Police Log: Woman Crawling, Car Hits Building

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – The Shrewsbury Police Department has released their log for the date of Jan. 24. A woman was taken to the hospital after someone reported seeing her crawling in the road. After a car struck a building on Pineland Road, the driver was arrested for destruction of property and an OUI.

Busy Weekend Ahead in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Shrewsbury has a busy weekend ahead starting with sports on Friday night, a book signing and information session on Saturday and finishing up with a Rotary Club fundraiser on Sunday.

On Friday night, both the girls and boys basketball teams will be facing off against Marlborough, the boys at home and the girls away. Both games start at 7 p.m. Also this weekend, the boys hockey team will face off against Hudson at the North Star Youth Forum at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday and the girls basketball team will have another game on Sunday against North Middlesex at 4:30 ...

Police Log: Shoplifting Arrest, Scrap Metal Stolen

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – The Shrewsbury Police Department has released their log for the date of Jan. 23. Two Fitchburg women were arrested for shoplifting and conspiracy. Scrap metal was reported stolen from a business over the weekend.

State Approves 10% Reduction in Library Renovation

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – The state approved a 10 percent size reduction this week for the Shrewsbury Public Library's renovation project, which was placed on a waiting list for an $8 million grant last year, but was voted down by residents in October.

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) approved the size reduction at the request of Library Director Ellen Dolan and Town Manager Dan Morgado.

"We're really pleased they made this decision to give us the flexibility to respond to residents' concerns that the building was too large," Dolan said.

Town to Auction Home on Purinton Street

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – A single-family home on 47 Purinton Street will be sold at public auction next month after the town acquired the property via tax foreclosure.

The previous owner, Yolanda Carlson, is deceased and the property is not occupied.

The home and the .692 acres will be auctioned on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.

Paul Zekos of the Zekos Group Auctioneers will be handling the auction at no charge to the Town of Shrewsbury. Zekos previously handled for the Town the very successful sale of 52 Holden Street in November of 2005.

Moderator Mehne Will Seek Re-Election

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – Current Town Moderator Christopher G. Mehne has announced that he will seek re-election for another three-year term in the Annual Town Election this year.

Mehne, of 8 Wiltshire Drive, was first elected to the office in 2009, succeeding former Moderator Kevin T. Byrne.

New White City Traffic Light Coming This Summer

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – A new traffic light on South Quinsigamond Avenue to connect the East and West Plazas of the White City Shopping Center and increase safety on the road will be operational before the end of the summer.

Karen Johns of Charter Realty & Development told the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday night that the improvements, which began last year when the company purchased the property, would continue at the shopping center to increase safety and make things easier for shoppers.

Police Log: Cars Hit Poles, Child Exposed to CO

SHREWSBURY, Mass. – The Shrewsbury Police Department has released their log for the dates of Jan. 20 through 22. On the snowy Saturday, Jan. 21, several cars hit poles around town. A child was evaluated by medics after being exposed to carbon monoxide.

Oak Girls to Focus on "Finding Kind" This Week
